Parental burnout is a unique and context-specific syndrome resulting from a chronic imbalance of risks over resources in the parenting domain. The current research aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Parental Burnout Assessment across Spanish-speaking countries with two consecutive studies. In Study 1, we analyzed the data through a bifactor model within an Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling on the pooled sample of participants obtaining good fit indices. We then attained measurement invariance across both gender (...) and countries in a set of nested models with gradually increasing parameter constraints. Latent means comparisons across countries showed that among the participants’ countries, Chile had the highest parental burnout score, likewise, comparisons across gender evidenced that mothers displayed higher scores than fathers, as shown in previous studies. Reliability coefficients were high. In Study 2, we tested the relations between parental burnout and three specific consequences, i.e., escape and suicidal ideations, parental neglect, and parental violence toward one’s children. The medium to large associations found provided support for the PBA’s predictive validity. Overall, we concluded that the Spanish version of the PBA has good psychometric properties. The results support its relevance for the assessment of parental burnout among Spanish-speaking parents, offering new opportunities for cross-cultural research in the parenting domain. (shrink)

Resumen La categoría de participación permite observar empíricamente cómo las interacciones sitúan a las personas de maneras específicas en el marco de prácticas sociales concretas. El objetivo de este trabajo es caracterizar el modo en que se organiza la participación en las reuniones de un equipo interdisciplinario de salud en un hospital de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Para ello, analizamos las interacciones orales atendiendo a la manera en que se gestionan los turnos de habla y se interpretan las instancias de habla (...) simultánea en el contexto de dos actividades vinculadas con la toma de decisiones y la resolución de obstáculos en la interacción: una propuesta de escritura y una secuencia de reparación. A través del análisis, definimos la participación conjunta como una forma de participación en la que se prioriza la construcción colectiva por sobre las voces individuales y en la que el habla simultánea tiene naturaleza cooperativa, no disruptiva. Asimismo, identificamos los efectos que produce en las reuniones, orientados a la construcción del consenso, el establecimiento de la continuidad temática y el mantenimiento de las relaciones interpersonales. A la luz de estos resultados, observamos que la participación conjunta tiene un rol central en el proceso de construcción y mantenimiento de una identidad grupal, reforzando la inscripción de los profesionales en ella. In the present work we explore the effects that an H impurity produces upon the geometry and electronic structure of the CaTiO 3 crystal considering the cubic and orthorhombic crystallographic lattices of the material. A quantum-chemical method based on the Hartree-Fock formalism and the periodic large-unit-cell model is used throughout the work. The analysis of the results shows that the interstitial H impurity binds to one of the O atoms forming the so-called O-H group. At equilibrium, the O-H distances are (...) found to be equal to 0.89 and 1.04 Å for cubic and orthorhombic lattices respectively. Atomic displacements and relaxation energies are analysed comparing the obtained results in the cubic lattice with those in the orthorhombic lattice. In the cubic phase the computed relaxation energy of vicinity of the O-H group is found to be equal to 1.1 eV and the atomic displacements generally obey the Coulomb law. So, the negatively charged O atoms move outwards from the defective region by about 0.09 Å while the positively charged Ti and Ca atoms move towards the defective region by about 0.05 and 0.01 Å respectively. A similar effect is observed in the orthorhombic lattice of CaTiO 3 doped with an H atom. It is necessary to mention that different O positions in the orthorhombic structure are considered for the O-H bond creation. The computed relaxation energies of the atomic displacements in this structure are found to be equal to 2.3 and 2.1 eV depending on the crystallographic type of the bonding O atom. (shrink)

Martin Heidegger once wrote that the world had, in the age of modern science, become a world picture. For Rey Chow, the world has, in the age of atomic bombs, become a world target, to be attacked once it is identified, or so global geopolitics, dominated by the United States since the end of the Second World War, seems repeatedly to confirm. How to articulate the problematics of knowledge production with this aggressive targeting of the world? Chow attempts such an (...) articulation by probing the significance of the chronological proximity of area studies, poststructuralist theory, and comparative literature—fields of inquiry that have each exerted considerable influence but whose mutual implicatedness as postwar U.S. academic phenomena has seldom been theorized. Central to Chow’s discussions is a critique of the predicament of self-referentiality—the compulsive move to interiorize that, in her view, constitutes the collective frenzy of our age—in different contemporary epistemic registers, including the self-consciously avant-garde as well as the militaristic and culturally supremacist. Urging her readers to think beyond the inward-turning focus on EuroAmerica that tends to characterize even the most radical gestures of Western self-deconstruction, Chow envisions much broader intellectual premises for future transcultural work, with reading practices aimed at restoring words and things to their constitutive exteriority. This paper argues that the linguistic approach to analyzing induction, according to which induction is a type of inference or argument composed of statements or propositions, is unsuitable to account for scientific reasoning. Consequently, a novel approach to induction in model-based science is suggested. First, in order to show their adherence to the linguistic treatment of induction, two strategies are reviewed: (i) Carnap and Reichenbach’s attempts to justify induction and (ii) Norton’s recent material theory of induction. Second, three reasons are (...) provided to support the claim that the linguistic treatment of induction is insufficient in accounting for model-based reasoning in science. Finally, a framework focused on models—rather than statements or propositions—is suggested to address induction in science. William Whewell’s theory of induction is briefly outlined as an example of a non-propositional treatment of induction that is consistent with model-based scientific practice. (shrink)

Under the intentionality that leads to promoting the liberation of the oppressed in global coloniality, considering planetary decoloniality as the urgency of complexity as transmethod, in the present investigation from rhizomatic deconstruction as a transmethod, the properties of rhizomes are analyzed as the essence of planetary-complex decolonial investigations; That is the complex objective of the investigation. It is framed in the lines of research: education-transcomplex transepistemologies and transepistemologies of knowledge-knowledge and transcomplex transmethodologies. In the reconstruction, the philosophical significances of the (...) properties of the rhizomes are specified: connection and heterogeneity, multiplicity, asignifying rupture and cartography and decal we obtain contributions in complex planetary investigations with an anti-method criticality that is deeply complex and transdisciplinary in the anti-Eurocentrist project. We have reconciled the complex conceptions that were occurring in postcolonialism that perspectives of theoretical articulation between transmodern decolonial criticism with the reflections of Michel Foucault, Felix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze as possible collaborations in the liberating mission of planetary decoloniality. Asumiendo que la decolonialidad planetaria es apodíctica de la complejidad y de la transdisciplinariedad, bajo rupturas asignificantes, en condiciones abiertas para conformar al ser humano a pensar complejamente, sustentamos transepistemes devinientes de las rupturas asignificantes de la decolonialidad planetaria-complejidad como objetivo complejo de indagación; en _las líneas de investigación_: educación-transepistemologías transcomplejas, Decolonialidad planetaria-complejidad en re-ligaje y transepistemologías de los conocimientos-saberes y transmetodologías transcomplejas. Lo realizamos con el transmétodo la hermenéutica comprensiva, ecosófica y diatópica; en los momentos analíticos, empíricos y propositivos. (...) Contrary to the outstanding simplistic view of the taste system, learning studies show a more complex picture. Behavioral data using conditioned taste preference and aversion tasks support the idea that mixtures involve complex interactions between individual taste cues. Evidence from taste conditioned blocking, taste perceptual learning, and taste learned preferences is considered to support such a view. Greater support for research in taste learning and memory is required for a complete understanding of taste recognition.

Se usa la hermenéutica comprensiva, diatópica y ecosófica como transmétodo de construcción teórica para sustentar la con-formación de los investigadores educativos venezolanos desde la tríada transdisciplinariedad-ecosofía-antropoética, como retos urgentes en Venezuela. Existen problemáticas profundas en el accionar del ciudadano que se conforma en la educación universitaria, ya que el ser humano, en su parcelación del conocimiento, ha olvidado que somos seres biológicos, psíquicos, espirituales, sociales, ambientales, etéreos, culturales, y que cada aspecto no se puede estudiar por separado ya que es (...) un complexus. Todo ello, aunado a la mercantilización, a temas como la inclusión, la pertinencia y la con-formación, junto a la formación docente en los posgrados, se analiza frecuentemente. Se concluye que con la antropoética se debe alcanzar la toma de consciencia que se necesita en la investigación y en la formación de educadores y que, por encima de la mercantilización, existe la responsabilidad social compleja de la formación de ese docente como ciudadano planetario. La inteligencia artificial (IA) es una realidad cuyo desarrollo plantea múltiples problemas en la actualidad. El conflicto surge entre las posibilidades técnicas reales, y las consecuencias éticas de implementarla hasta sus últimas consecuencias. El presente trabajo analiza alguna de estas problemáticas y sostiene que la IA, es un instrumento al servicio del ser humano y sólo así debe ser utilizado, so pena de convertirse en un recurso ingobernable. Urge, por tanto, un ejercicio de responsabilidad que proteja el humanismo y los (...) derechos fundamentales, defendiendo que, el ser humano es, y debe seguir siendo, el centro de la creación. Suárez es uno de los más insignes juristas españoles. La profundidad y originalidad de su pensamiento ha inspirado a muchos autores posteriores hasta la actualidad de manera que puede decirse que existe una escuela suareciana conocida y activa. Este hecho que engrandece nuestra tradición jurídica, debe ser conservado y acrecentado. El artículo que ahora se presenta quiere llegar un poco más allá. Quiere buscar la influencia indirecta de Suárez en aquellos autores que sin mencionarlo expresamente siguen los cauces de su (...) pensamiento aplicándolos a ámbitos de conocimiento no estrictamente jurídicos. Este es el caso de Andrés Bello, un personaje americano de gran importancia. Político, diplomático y jurista de formación humanista clásica, organizó la vida de los seres humanos en sociedad buscando la justicia y la paz. Creo que la influencia de Suárez en personajes de este tipo debe ser considerada, conocida y valorada porque expanden su magisterio de forma insospechada. (shrink)

Clemente de Munguía (1810-1868) fue un f ilósofo del derecho mexicano. Su pensamiento fue iusnaturalista de corte historicista y escolástico, con influencia suareciana. Su visión sobre el derecho lo convierte en un neoescolástico adelantado cuyo pensamiento engrandece la f igura de Francisco Suárez (1548-1617). El conocimiento de su f igura y de su obra resulta tanto más interesante por el momento histórico en que se produce, que en el ámbito mexicano coincide con la independencia del país; y en el euro (...) americano con la expansión de los positivismos jurídicos. Pese a ello, el pensamiento munguiano muestra la pervivencia de la obra de Francisco Suárez, como uno de los grandes pensadores jurídicos del mundo hispano. (shrink)

The compliance-based approach and the integrity approach have been the mainstream responses to corporate scandals. This paper proposes that, despite each approach comprising necessary elements, neither offers a comprehensive solution. Compliance and integrity, far from being mutually exclusive, reinforce each other. Working together, in a correct relationship, they build a harmonized system that yields positive synergies and which also advocates prudence. It enables the generation of a culture of compliance that tends to minimize the technical and ethical errors in decision (...) making. In order to explore an applied harmonized approach, we analyze the audit committee, a specific and broadly accepted regulatory instrument. Formed by non-executive members, regulation requires these members to be dedicated, qualified, and independent as a guarantee of efficiency. We show how the compound of those elements produces positive effects in a context of solid governance. We conclude that it is the strong relationship between efficiency and prudence, in the creation of a culture of compliance, which enables the minimization of errors. (shrink)

En este artículo, desarrollamos el proyecto de una epistemología de la visibilidad para desmontar y examinar los sesgos sexo-genéricos y coloniales del conocimiento. El objetivo central es cuestionar la llamada “doble subalternidad” identificada por diversas teorías críticas latinoamericanas (Femenías, 2009) y argumentar en favor de una conjunción epistémica entre crítica feminista y decolonial, en pos de un pensamiento complejo. Abductive problems have been widely studied in propositional logic. First order abduction, however, has been viewed as intractable, for the undecidability of logical consequence. In this paper, we propose a notion of abductive problem, N-abductive problem, which is relative to the cardinality of the minimal model satisfying the given theory. We use a notion of restricted satisfaction, also relative to a domain cardinality. Finally, we propose an effective procedure for the searching of abductive solutions, by means of a modification of (...) Beth's tableaux. (shrink)

Hume presenta su teoría estética en el ensayo Sobre el criterio del gusto [On the Standard of Taste], en el que propone la existencia de un criterio [standard] capaz de zanjar discusiones de gusto. Ese criterio se basa en la existencia de ciertas formas y cualidades que complacen naturalmente a todo ser humano. Hume asevera que tal criterio corresponde a la opinión del crítico: un hombre que ha desplegado particularmente sus facultades cognoscitivas, lo cual le permite percibir esas finas cualidades (...) que suscitan naturalmente el placer de lo bello en el ser humano. Con respecto a en qué consisten esas formas y cualidades universalmente placenteras, Hume guarda silencio. Pretendo mostrar cómo la teoría de la emoción en la música desarrollada por Leonard Meyer en su texto Emoción y significado en la música (Emotion and Meaning in Music) puede aportar inmensidades en ese aspecto. Research question/issue This paper aims to contribute to an improved theoretical and empirical understanding of the role that corporation has to play in anticorruption efforts. Research findings/insights Using cross-country data from three databases (Bribe Payers Index, Corruption Perceptions Index, and Doing Business) we found that pro-bribery Investment Climate conditions in host countries are not related to the payments of bribes by multinational companies when these corporations operate abroad. Theoretical/academic implications After describing the conceptual and policy framework that (...) surrounds the discussion on the role played by firms in anticorruption, we present the current debate regarding the effectiveness of international bribery control instruments, with the World Bank-GAC (2006-2008) report as a basis. Both literature and policy seem to be divided into two main, although not mutually exclusive, positions: one demands improvements in Investment Climate conditions from a joint public-private consensus led by international agencies; the other one supports the effectiveness of self-regulation by firms, independent of Investment Climate improvements. The study provides empirical support to the idea that a better Investment Climate is not enough for reducing corrup tion. Practitioner/policy implications This study offers insights to policy makers interested in promoting the involvement of corporations in the fight against corruption. (shrink)

Aunque no se trata de una obra especifica que presente un panorama completo y exacto, de todos y cada uno de los problemas relacionados con el empleo de la misma, los autores pretenden con el artículo realizar una breve reflexión del tema desde el enfoque de la ciencia, la (...) tecnología y la sociedad en el momento actual, de manera que constituya un marco útil para el examen de estos temas, su debate, reflexión e intercambio de opiniones en el contexto de los servicios de la salud. ABSTRACT Among the huge number of current issues related to the current scientific-technological development is undoubtedly the use of non-invasive mechanical ventilation as a measure of life support. Although it is not a specific work that presents a complete and accurate picture of each one of the problems related to the use of it. Authors intend with the article to make a brief reflection on the subject from the perspective of science, technology and society at the present time, so that it constitutes a useful framework for the examination of these issues, debate, reflection and exchange of opinions in the context of health services. Le nouvel et dernier ouvrage de Jean-Pierre Cléro consacre à la philosophie de Jeremy Bentham est intéressant à plus d’un titre. Tout d’abord, il unifie et bénéficie de l’ensemble des textes et réflexions que Jean-Pierre Cléro a pu élaborer depuis de nombreuses années sur les différents aspects de la philosophie benthamienne. Ensuite, il débute habilement par une relecture particulièrement vive et intéressante de la vie de Bentham. Loin de se contenter de la classique biographie, Jean-Pierre Cléro propose une relecture des (...) différents évènements qui, selon lui, ont structuré la vie de Bentham tout en délivrant des clés qui permettront de mieux comprendre l’évolution de sa pensée. Sans sombrer dans la facilité d’une « psychologisation biographique », il s’agit bien plutôt de comprendre l’auteur à travers des éléments marquants de sa vie. A ce titre, les phrases d’ouverture et de clôture de cette partie biographique sont particulièrement éclairantes et intéressantes quant aux possibili... (shrink)

The emergence of the term ‘Plebanski’ as a topic trend in the scientific literature is studied as a significant communication event resulting from its use by authors to refer to the relevant aspects of Jerzy Plebanski scientific work in the area of mathematical physics. We searched the ‘Plebanski’ topic included in the titles, abstracts and key words of the papers registered in five databases: ADS/NASA, MathSciNet, SCOPUS, SPIRES and Web of Science. Our results clearly show the evolution of the JP’s (...) scientific work from a cited reference to a recognized term in the indexes of the published literature, then to a nodal concept in the scientific communication process and finally as an eponym in the Latin American scholar literature. This paper investigates the differences between ancient Greek and modern ethical naturalism, through the account of the whole classical tradition provided by Cicero in De finibus bonorum et malorum. Ever since Hume’s remarks on the topic, it is usually held that derivations of normative claims from factual claims require some kind of proper justification. It ́s a the presence of such justifications in the Epicurean, Stoic, and Academic-Peripatetic ethical theories (as portrayed in De finibus), and, after a negative conclusion, I (...) argue that we should conceive of this issue within a social-historical perspective: The radical difference between ancient and modern naturalistic ethics is due (in Weber’s terms) to the rationalization processes that generated the modern outlook on nature.
